Day 14: Half United

Through my brother-in-law, Daniel, I have recently discovered Half United Clothing Company. Half United is based out of Wilmington, NC and it began in 2009. While Tom's made its debut, and others have followed fighting poverty and helping to clothes those in need, Half United sells its clothes on the basis of fighting world hunger. 


This is a quote from "Their Story" on Half United's Website:

"The name HALF UNITED is based upon the idea that every time you purchase one of our products you are UNITING with others to do your part to fight global hunger. Your purchase is only HALF of your story, the other HALF is your selfless act of changing a child’s life, possibly forever. At HALF UNITED we UNITE with men, women and children across the globe to peacefully protest global hunger. We realize none of us can eradicate hunger alone, but UNITED there’s nothing we cannot accomplish!"


Half United has an online boutique but much of their merchandise is sold in speciality shops in the Southeast. I strongly encourage all of my follower's to buy something. The cambodian bracelets are my favorite!

My Latest Purchase: Rebecca Minkoff Handbag

Since I did so well with my wisdom teeth, I thought I deserved a little "treat." And a treat for me is not ice cream. My treats are clothing, handbags, or jewelry. I couldn't leave the house for 3 days due to my surgery. So I started looking online. I have been obsessing over a Rebecca Minkoff handbag. I saw on Zappos that the Navy mini satchel that I have been eyeing for almost a year now was on sale! It was marked down by $100. Rebecca Minkoff rarely goes on sale... especially the bag I wanted because it's her signature and classic bag. It shipped out Saturday so it should arrive while I am in DC. Eeeeeek! I can't wait to get it. Here is just a preview...

My Obsession: Nivea Creme

I am in love with the Nivea creme. It feels amazing. I bought a 7oz. container for $7.49 at Walgreens. It hydrates my skin without making it feel greasy or oily. I use the creme on my face twice daily- morning and night. I definitely recommend that you try it. I even have my mom wearing it now! And she’s always worn expensive moisturizers. I promise you will love it. It has done wonders for my skin!

Day 13: Save Japan by Tory Burch

I have two main objectives for my life- 1. to be successful in the fashion industry and 2. to better humanity and make a difference in the lives of others. I know those goals seem so contradictory since the fashion industry is so vain and self-absorbed while helping others is so selfless and charitable. I love to purchase- anything as you have learned. But it makes me even happier when I know my money is going to a good cause. I like to give. If you have been around me at Christmas time, you know that is true. I never pass up the opportunity to give to an Angel tree or abundantly buy presents for my family. So it makes me happy to buy knowing that I’m also giving to those in need. 

The shirt I’m wearing is by Tory Burch. She designed the shirt for Save Japan-- after the earthquake. I bought 3 shirts when they went on sale. Not that I would ever need 3 but I thought it was a good number. And I can always justify those purchases so I never feel guilty about them :)

... There are so many funny things about these pictures. I can’t take them seriously! Dad wanted the flag in the background so he held the flag while mom took the picture. For those of you know my dad, you probably find this hilarious but NOT surprising. Haha! And my baby, Karl, is my accessory. I used to carry him around in my purse-- mainly we would go shopping. Well, Karl has grown to be too big for that! Carrying him around these days would be a work out!

AND PS-- I thought I was doing better from my wisdom teeth surgery. Yesterday was such a tease. I woke up with my cheeks more swollen than any other day!

My Obsession: MAC Cosmetics

I am the youngest of three girls. So growing up, I was always way ahead of my peers. I thought that I should be allowed to do everything that my older sisters were doing- shave my legs, wear make-up, etc. All in elementary school! Looking back on those days, I laugh at myself. What I wouldn’t give to be able to get away with wearing no makeup! 

I absolutely love makeup. You can get so creative with it. I rarely go plain, simple, and natural. I like dramatic with hints of color. My favorite brand of makeup is MAC. It is actually a mild obsession. There are very few times that I can go into a mall and not come out with something from MAC- even if it’s the newest lipgloss. Yes, it can be pricey. BUT mother always said: you only get one skin; treat it right. And I have always listened to that statement (even if I failed to listen to anything else). 

If I could choose only ONE item to wear the rest of my life, I would pick liquid eyeliner. The results are amazing- it doesn’t run and it last for hours! This is a quirky little habit of mine. I apply liquid eyeliner every night before bed. I sleep with it on. In the morning, it is perfectly in place but it isn’t as harsh so I can get away with wearing it daily. I use MAC LiquidLast Liner in Point Black... and I have been wearing it for 5 years now. I have tried many different liners- from drugstore brands to speciality brands to department store brands. NOTHING works like MAC liquidlast. I promise you won’t be disappointed!

Although I always use MAC mascara, I had just switched around from one mascara to another. Usually I bought the newest mascara by MAC. I love the Plush Lash and I guess I would say that overall that has been my favorite. UNTIL... I came in contact with the best mascara my lashes have discovered. MAC Studio Fix Boldblack Lash is part of the Fashion Flower collection that came out this spring. It is everything a girl needs in a mascara. It lengthens the lashes like no other AND it is the darkest black making eyelashes look so glamorous. The mascara seriously makes the eyes “POP!”

My latest MAC purchase was a liner/stick/gloss combo. I usually wear a lot of pinks but I love the newest Viva Glam nude color. The lipstick and lipglass is endorsed by Lady Gaga-- hence the name Viva Glam Lady Gaga 2. There was not a liner to match so I bought a neutral color- Subculture- and it literally matches every other lipglass made by MAC. So I’ve been sporting the nude lip lately.

Picture Perfect: Kate & Daniel

These blonde babes are two of the hottest people I know! Kate McFarland Sap and Daniel Lock- my sister and “my brother.” I consider them both family :) Let me start by saying neither of the two could ever take a bad picture. I just don’t think it’s possible. I love when they pose for the camera together. It is always picture perfect. Since they both love attention and fashion, you can imagine that every picture is always beautiful and fun... and fabulous! Right now Kate and Daniel are in Charleston sunbathing and barhopping. Oh the life!

... There is a 3rd party to this picture. He is usually behind the scenes taking all the pictures. Daniel Sap, my brother-in-law, has started photography as a hobby. And he’s really good at it! I would love for DSap to shoot Kate, Daniel, and me altogether. That would be such a good time!

Day 12: Chubby Cheeks

2 Days after my wisdom teeth surgery and my cheeks are so round and chubby! I have recovered relatively fast so I was out and about this afternoon. After spending 2 entire days on the couch, I was ready to go to lunch and get a pedicure. It was a nice afternoon with mother. Since I was well enough to go somewhere, I figured I was well enough to continue with the "30 Days of Fashion." Yes, my cheeks are rounder than usual, but they are not horrible. So hopefully there will be no other setbacks to the 30 days. Oh, I'm glad to be back 100% :) Have a good Friday, y'all!
